Hardship: Ohanaeze chieftain praises Igbos For Not Protesting Against Tinubu

Isiguzoro brought attention to the Southeast region’s chronic underfunding from the time of former President Muhammadu Buhari’s government until the present, as per a Daily Post report.

He called upon Tinubu to take action on the recommendations outlined in the 2014 Constitutional Conference to address the economic challenges confronting Nigeria.

In a statement he issued, the factional Secretary-General of Ohanaeze remarked, “Amidst the nationwide uproar and unrest triggered by escalating living costs, economic distress, and famine, a notable calmness prevails in the Old Eastern Nigeria, encompassing the Southeast and South-South regions.”

He praised the citizens of the Old Eastern region, particularly those in the Southeast, for their discernment in refraining from leading protests against President Tinubu and the Federal Government amid economic adversities.

Highlighting the disparities faced by the Southeast, Isiguzoro pointed to various instances of governmental neglect and discrimination, including marginalization in federal appointments, lack of intervention in incidents such as the demolition of Igbo properties in Lagos, and the inequitable treatment of figures like Nnamdi Kanu compared to others.

In contrast to protests in other parts of the country, Isiguzoro noted the absence of casualties or protester fatalities resulting from security intervention in the Southeast, contrasting with past incidents such as protests against Kanu’s detention and the tragic Obigbo (Oyibo) Massacre in Rivers State.

Ohanaeze expressed admiration for the courage and foresight demonstrated by the Southeast populace in enduring challenging circumstances.

The organization urged solidarity with all suffering individuals in the region and beyond, calling on the Federal Government to revamp President Tinubu’s economic team and implement the recommendations of the 2014 Constitutional Conference to address mounting dissent and discontent.
