Alabo George-Kelly, the former commissioner of works, gave a justification for leaving his ministry, but Governor Fubara disapproved of it, claiming the state was misusing funds. Furthermore, George-Kelly made an implication that Fubara would have only been employed as a level 14 civil servant in the absence of his predecessor.

Fubara depicted the ex-commissioner as a substance abuser who speaks recklessly in order to gain favor with the FCT minister. The Governor expressed that he would have had an advantage if he had served as the Chief Accountant in 2010. Fubara alleged that the former commissioner was receiving payment to please his employer, emphasizing that he wouldn’t stoop to making baseless accusations.

According to NAN, he said, “I heard one drug addict telling people that I would have been in level 14 or 15. You know when you don’t know people, you talk carelessly and when you are already high, what do you expect?

“If in 2010 I was the Chief Accountant, most of you who know the civil service, where would I be before 2022?

“When you see people because you want to impress your paymaster, you talk carelessly. But I won’t reduce myself to that kind of talk.”

From the same perspective, it’s worth noting the ongoing political turmoil between the former governor and his successor Fubara regarding state leadership. A rift exists within the state House of Assembly, where a majority of 27 lawmakers support the FCT minister. The governor is at odds with these lawmakers following an impeachment notice. Additionally, lawmakers originally from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have switched allegiance to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
