Gen Usman 'The Terrorists Have More Knowledge Of The Area Than The Military Troops Themselves'

It is challenging to stop planned and coordinated operations by terrorists because they are more familiar with the rural landscape of Plateau state than the military is. This was highlighted by General Sani Usman, the former director of Army Public Relations. He gave an overview of the intricate security landscape in the nation, highlighting the ongoing Operation Safe Haven in the Plateau, which covers portions of the North Central and North West. He noted that the operation’s strength has been cut in half as a result of the numerous security issues. He emphasized the large geographic areas of Barkin Ladi, Mangu, and Bokkos local governments—all of which are larger than 1,000 square kilometers—together with over 5,000 square kilometers. He said in an interview with AIT, ”Because of the large numbers of security challenges in this country, we have a standing operation in Plateau. Dealing with some other parts of North Central and some parts of North West. And it is Operation Safe Haven but because of the security challenges elsewhere, the strength of that operation has been depleted to almost 50%. And that is one thing people do not understand. And you have to look at the geography of those three key local government. Bokkos, Barkin Ladi, and Mangu. Each one of them is over 1,000 square kilometers. Apparently, the three of them are about over 5000 square kilometers. Now, how many troops do you need to have on ground? this is one issue. Then most importantly, the terrorists have more knowledge of the area than the military troops themselves. So they know what they are looking for. And so the local government was quite right that it was unprecedented, coordinated and it was deliberate.
