THE NATION reports on these accusations. The legislators assert that this move is a pretext for an unlawful attempt to remove Siminalayi Fubara from office as governor of Rivers State.

During a press conference, the group’s spokesman, Hon. Ikenga Ugochinyere (PDP, Imo), displayed copies of the suit allegedly filed by the PDP. He denounced the party’s actions as a betrayal and evidence of a compromised NWC that needs immediate dissolution.

Defected Rivers State Lawmakers

The suit, identified as FHC/PH/CS/90/2024 and dated May 14, 2024, seeks to join the PDP as 30 defendants and amend all processes in the suit to reflect the party as the defendant. The PDP’s affidavit claims it has not received any resignation notices from the wards of the 27 defected members and cannot confirm their defection. Paragraph 10 of the affidavit states: “In further response to paragraph 20(1) of the affidavit in support of the originating summons, the 30th defendant is not aware that the 1st – 27th defendants renounced their membership of the People’s Democratic Party or defected to the APC aside the rumours being peddled on social media.”

Ugochinyere criticized the National Legal Adviser of the PDP for earlier denying the existence of the suit. He accused Damagun of destroying the party by allowing the reinstatement of APC defectors to impeach the governor. Ugochinyere provided evidence of the legal process and highlighted the involvement of Dr. Musa Joshua SAN, a lawyer allegedly aligned with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.

He stated, “The party headquarters lied, and here today, we have the hard evidence and copies of the documents to show what those we left in Wadata house are capable of doing to their own party.”

Ugochinyere emphasized that the PDP’s actions, facilitated by its chairman and legal adviser, are aligned with Wike’s interests, which conflict with those of the PDP. The processes filed by Dr. Joshua Musa SAN, representing Wike’s interests, oppose the prayers to declare the defected lawmakers’ seats vacant, thereby threatening the stability of the PDP-led government in Rivers State.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
