In a recent report by Punch, Bafarawa said the actual policy decision to remove fuel subsidy was made by former President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration. He said if President Tinubu had planned the removal himself, he would have come up with solutions to deal with its consequences. He said Tinubu fell into a “trap” created by Buhari’s administration.

Bafarawa explained that during General Abacha’s rule when there was extra money from oil sale, he created the Petroleum Trust Fund (PTF) to manage it and Buhari was in charge of this fund. He said knowing the benefits of having extra money from oil, Buhari should have followed Abacha’s example and created a similar fund when he was president.
