Falana Reveals Tinubu’s private visit to France exposed Nigeria to ridicule — he’s not recognised

President Bola Tinubu has been under fire from Femi Falana, Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), over his trip to France, which she claims exposed Nigeria to mockery. CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>

The presidential spokeswoman, Ajuri Ngelale, revealed last week—according to The Cable—that Tinubu had left on a private trip to Paris, the French capital, without providing an explanation.

According to Ngelale, the president should be back in the nation by the first week of February.

In response to the news, Falana stated in an interview on Sunday that Tinubu’s trip to France is embarrassing for Nigeria, particularly when the French government has not acknowledged his existence.

The late Afrobeat icon Fela Anikulakpo-Kuti made several private trips to France at the invitation of former President Francois Mitterrand, as evidenced by the SAN.

He questioned why a Nigerian president would visit the same nation for the same objective and not receive formal acknowledgement.

“I hope this is the last time a Nigerian president travels to a nation that does not recognize him, exposing the nation to shame and mockery,” Falana remarked.

The human rights advocate added that the president’s private visit is not permitted by law.

The Nigerian president’s private tour is not permitted by the constitution. Consequently, he is unable to lead the nation while on a private visit,” he declared.

“Therefore, the question of a private visit does not arise to the extent that he is still conducting the state’s activities.”
