He argued that if the commission submitted any financial requests to the governor, the governor would approve the necessary funds to facilitate the elections. He clarified that it is not within the governor’s purview to conduct elections directly.
He said in an interview with Channel TV, ”There is one mistake we keep making; whenever there is an inability to conduct local government election, everybody tends to blame the governor. The constitution specified and one of such steps is the constitution of an Independent electoral commission.
It is not the responsibility of the governor of a state to conduct an election. Nobody has asked Rivers state INEC why they are unable to conduct an election. I can assure you that if they have presented any bill to the governor, the governor will release the funds.
