Edo: Shaibu, 10 of us contested for primaries in PDP, about 9 of us Obaseki said we should go to hell

Regarding voter tampering in the most recent gubernatorial election, Governor Godwin Obaseki has been the target of significant accusations from Philip Shaibu, the deputy governor of Edo State. Shaibu alleges that Obaseki tried to rig the election by bringing N73 million to his ward, raising the possibility that he was trying to purchase votes.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>

In an interview with Arise TV, Shaibu elaborated on his concerns, asserting that Obaseki’s actions included transferring voters to his polling unit, which he believes led to an inflated number of registered voters there. He criticized the governor for allegedly undermining the democratic process and betraying key leaders within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), including Dan Orbih, who supported him in the previous election cycle.

Shaibu expressed frustration over what he described as Obaseki’s autocratic tendencies. He argued that the governor’s refusal to collaborate with other party leaders in the PDP primaries ultimately weakened the party. According to Shaibu, Obaseki dismissed nine out of ten contestants in the primaries, showing a lack of respect for their political significance in Edo State.

The Deputy Governor characterized Obaseki’s approach as a desperate attempt to leverage financial resources to ensure victory. He pointed to the governor’s decision to allocate a significant budget for his ward as evidence of this strategy, indicating that he had obtained documentation outlining the funds intended for this purpose. He believes that the governor’s tactics not only compromised the election’s fairness but also alienated potential allies within the party, creating rifts that could have long-term implications for the PDP’s unity.

According to him, “he also pushed a lot of people to transfer their polling unit to my own polling unit. And that is why in my state today, I have the highest number of PVC voters in my unit. So the game changer really is that we had 10 of us that contested for primaries in PDP, about nine of us Obaseki told us to go to hell. The leaders like Dan Orbih that went to canvass for him, he betrayed them.”CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
