According to the Nigerian Tribune, Alhaji Hashimu Dungurawa, the chairman of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in Kano State, recently charged former governor Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje with establishing new Emirate councils for political purposes prior to the 2023 elections.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>

Speaking to the press on Friday, Dungurawa likened the appointed Emirs to “commissioners” serving political tasks.

He stated that this strategy was intended to end with Ganduje’s tenure, which concluded after he lost the elections.

He highlighted public disappointment over the vacancy of the Emir of Kano position, prompting Governor Abba Yusuf to reinstate Muhammadu Sanusi II.

The controversy surrounds the reinstatement of Muhammadu Sanusi II to the vacant Emir of Kano position, which brought legal issues resolved by Justice A. Liman.

The NNPP Chairman praised the judiciary’s handling of the case, underlining the palace’s importance as a site where ancestors are laid to rest.

“The 15th Emir, Aminu Ado Bayero, and four other first-class Emirs were appointed by the previous administration of former Governor Ganduje in pursuit of political gains ahead of the 2023 elections.”

“The Emirs enjoyed the status of appointed commissioners by Ganduje, but it is in the public interest that they ceased to be recognized after the former governor’s tenure.”
