As reported by PUNCH, reports indicate that the attack resulted in the disappearance of 15 individuals, including women and children.
The harrowing ordeal took place at Gankwe village along the Donga-Mararaban-Baissa road in the Donga Local Government Area of Taraba State.
The driver of the bus, Mr. Mpuuga Mbaave, narrowly escaped with machete wounds, offering a chilling firsthand account of the events that transpired.
“I loaded 18 passengers from Zaki/Biam in Benue State to Maihura in Taraba State, and on our way close to Mararaba, I saw many people in vigilante uniform. I suspected something was wrong, so I parked the vehicle,” recounted Mbaave.
The driver’s suspicions were soon confirmed as the situation escalated rapidly. “Some of the vigilante personnel started shouting, ‘kill all of them,’ ‘kill all of them,’ it’s their people (Tiv) that killed our members, and they started attacking the passengers and cutting them with machetes,” he revealed.
Despite attempts to flee, the passengers were forcibly removed from the bus and ordered to lie facedown. Mbaave made a split-second decision to escape, jumping out of the bus along with his conductor to evade the attackers.
In the aftermath of the attack, Hon. Ezra Voka, the Chairman of Donga Local Government Council, sprung into action, venturing into the nearby forest in search of the missing individuals.
“Please my friend, I am already in the bush in search of the missing people. We cannot talk much now till when I get more information from here,” he expressed. CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
