He claims that by playing on the Igbo people’s anxieties of religious persecution and conversion, Obi’s messaging fostered the impression that the APC’s “Muslim-Muslim” ticket would restrict their freedom of religion.

As a Catholic, he responds that these concerns were unfounded and notes that, ever since the election, he has been able to freely and peacefully practise his faith under the APC government.

“Peter Obi played a very tribal politics, which is very risky; we can’t become president with his style,” he said. For crying out loud, modern civilization dictates what tribe and religion members should believe. And that’s precisely how he played it. Because of him, the public believed that the APC, which was campaigning on a Muslim-Muslim platform, would convert everyone. I remain a Catholic because I was raised one. Furthermore, no one has in any way or fashion convinced me to switch from Catholicism to Islam.
