Lawyer Dele Farotimi has discussed an incident in which, according to a report by the Kaduna State Commission of Inquiry, soldiers in an army chief’s vehicle massacred 430 persons. In a video Farotimi shared on his Facebook page, he stated that the primary duty of soldiers is to protect citizens, not harm them. He said the victims were people whom the state was supposed to protect and the soldiers involved in this incident were supposed to be under a sworn duty to safeguard these individuals.
In Farotimi’s words: “In what universe is it okay for the convoy of an army chief to kill 430 persons believed to be citizens. Those are persons that the state is beholding to protect, those are the persons that the soldiers would have been under a sworn duty to protect.
