Solomon Dalung, a former minister of sports, has talked about the serious risks he took in the Niger Delta conflict. Former President Muhammadu Buhari tried to talk him out of going into the creeks, but he refused to back down, saying there were only three things that could happen to him: either he would return alive, get abducted, or die. Reflecting on Buhari’s relentless work ethic, he questioned whether the people surrounding Buhari were equally dedicated to their tasks. He stated that there was a need for the former President’s efforts to be effectively translated into action, he suggested that the collective work of the recruited individuals would have shaped a different narrative about his administration.

He said in an interview with Channels TV, ”The risk I took during the Niger Delta issue. Buhari tried to discourage me from going to the creeks and I told him 3 things would happen to me. I will come back alive, I will be kidnapped, I will be killed. Then he asked me this question, why would you want to take that risk? I told him I could lay my life for this country. From that point, he started respecting me. Some of the things I did closely with Buhari made me an enemy to people around him.

The President was working in his office till the last day but were the people around him also working? That the President was working for almost 24 hours, what he was doing must be translated by the people he had recruited to help him work.
