Cybersecurity Levy: An Old Tweet From Peter Obi Giving FG Advice On How To Make Nigerians Pay Their Taxes

An old tweet from Peter Gregory Obi, the Labour Party (LP) candidate for president in 2023 and the former governor of Anambra state, suggesting ways for the Federal Government to raise taxes in Nigeria has made its way public. The tweet was revisited after the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) told all banks to start charging cybersecurity levy on all transactions.

According to PREMIUM TIMES, the Central Bank of Nigeria has directed banks to start charging 0.5% cybersecurity levy on transactions. The report further stated that the information was directed to all commercial, merchant, non-interest and payment service banks.

However, Peter Obi’s tweet advising the Federal Government on how to generate tax has now been shared. In the tweet, Peter Obi said taxation is an investment and Nigeria needs to invest in its people before they can pay tax.

The statement reads;

“Taxation is an investment. We have 90 million Nigerians who are not doing anything. The government first have to invest. How? By putting money in SMEs.
