In response to Edwin Clark’s demands that three states be taken out of the NDDC, Akinola Gbonegun, the coordinator of the Concerned Ilaje Stakeholders Committee, has disclosed the location of Nigeria’s first crude oil discovery. He stated that there is a law to be followed and that if anyone wishes that some states should be removed from the NDDC they should follow the due process by taking it through the parliament.

In his statement, he said, “Crude oil wasn’t first discovered in Bayelsa State and Rivers State, it was first seen in Ondo State.
