Human rights advocate and attorney Chidi Odinkalu has responded to the recent remarks made by Professor Usman Yusuf, the former Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), stating that he has no idea why the South-East area is remaining mute about the nation’s current economic crisis. According to Odinkalu, Professor Yusuf is not taking his remarks seriously.
During a recent interview on Arise TV, which was also carried by Daily Post, Professor Yusuf had said that the South-East has remained quiet over the hardship in the country, and had urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to find out the reason for the silence.
The former NHIS boss said that there is silence in the North, and added that the silence from the North is more deadly than anywhere in the country.
Professor Yusuf said that Nigerians are suffering, and called on President Tinubu to provide food to the masses before things got out of hand.
He said, “I honestly don’t know why the South-East is quiet, uncharacteristically quiet. But the President needs to find out. The North is where I know I live; even my heritage is. The silence in the North is more lethal than anywhere else in the country. And the President needs to listen to that.
“The silence in the North, from the people of the North in spite of the suffering people are going through, is more lethal than people coming out.”
The statement from Professor Yusuf came following the protests that broke out in some parts of the North and South-West over the economic hardship in the country.
In his reaction to Professor Yusuf’s statement, Chidi Odinkalu said, “My friend, Prof Usman Yusuf, is asking why South-East Nigeria is not up in a cacophony of postulations over economic hardship in Nigeria. Surely he is not a serious fellow, is he?” CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
