Drawing parallels to America’s actions during World War II, he argued that just as the US was justified in dropping nuclear bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Israel should be given the support they need to end the war.

“When we were faced with destruction as a nation after Pearl Harbor, fighting the Germans and the Japanese, we decided to end the war by the bombing [of] Hiroshima [and] Nagasaki with nuclear weapons,” Graham said. “That was the right decision.”

Graham referenced the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki as a means to end the war with Japan, stating that it was the “right decision” in the face of national destruction. He also questioned why it was acceptable for the US to use nuclear weapons in that context, but not for Israel to take drastic measures to ensure their survival as a Jewish state.

“Can I say this?” he asked. “Why is it OK for America to drop two nuclear bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki to end their existential threat war? Why was it OK for us to do that? I thought it was OK.”

The senator’s remarks have sparked debate and criticism, with many questioning the ethical implications of using such extreme measures in warfare. Some have argued that the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki was a horrific act that resulted in the deaths of hundreds of thousands of civilians, and should not be used as a justification for similar actions in the present day.

“So, Israel, bomb Gaza like Hiroshima, do whatever you have to do to survive as a Jewish state. Whatever you have to do.”
