Mutah claimed in a recent Channels TV documentary that girls who refused to marry Boko Haram men were either sold into slavery or subjected to severe punishment. She disclosed that females who refused to get married would be intimidated and sold by Boko Haram. She claimed that as a result, some terrified girls chose to wed the rebels, while others chose to suffer the repercussions of declining to wed them.
In Mutah’s words: “When we say we don’t want to marry them, they will sell us or do bad things to us. So from there, some girls became afraid and told themselves it is better they get married to them (Boko Haram) than to do the punishment but some prefer to do the punishment”.
