Boat mishap: Survivor, I jumped into river and swam; non-indigenes begged us not to let them die

 

Mary Samuel, who lived through a horrific boat catastrophe in which at least twenty people are said to have died, has recounted her story. The incident included the huge wooden cargo boat “Godbless Dickson,” which caught fire and sank in the Southern Ijaw local government region near the Ezetu 1 town.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>

In a video shared by Arise TV, Mary explained that she was asleep when the boat suddenly caught fire. She said she was awakened by the noise and panic and she jumped into the river to save herself. She also recalled hearing the desperate cries of other passengers, particularly those who were not from the area, begging for help as the situation grew more dire.

Mary said that despite the passengers’ pleas for assistance, there was little anyone could do in the chaos of the burning and sinking boat.

In Mary’s words: “People were shouting, so when I woke up from sleep I saw that the boat was burning.
