Biafra Day: They have every right to mourn their own especially going by the history of that war - According to Gov Alex OttiAbia State Governor Alex Otti has said that his administration will refrain from needless altercations with people who are implementing the May 30 sit-at-home protest in remembrance of the victims of the Nigerian civil war. They warned that all activities in the South-East states would be halted and urged regional governors to ensure protection of lives and property, as reported by Vanguard.

Some individuals voiced concerns about potential conflicts between security forces and sit-at-home supporters.

However, Governor Otti, through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Ferdinand Ekeoma, said the government was coordinating with schools to ensure WAEC examinations proceed unaffected. They are actively addressing issues impacting the schools.

According to a Vanguard report, Otti emphasized that his administration does not seek confrontation with those enforcing the protest on May 30th, acknowledging the right to mourn the war victims.

He said, “We are not interested in unnecessary confrontation with the people who are appealing for sit-at-home in honour of their dead ones. They have every right to mourn their own especially going by the history of that war.

Speaking further he stated that, “It’s something we shouldn’t politicize. It was an emotional period when we remember the genocidal onslaught.
