Benin: Audu explainflaw in NYSC as thumbprint system failed to recognize that he already did NYSC

Umar Audu, a reporter for the Daily Nigerian Newspaper, has exposed certain shortcomings in the process of verifying foreign NYSC members during the NYSC orientation camp. Umar Audu revealed this information while recounting how he attended the NYSC orientation program and received a certificate from a Benin Republic institution in less than two months. Umar Audu made this statement in an interview on Channels Television where he said that the NYSC thumbprint system could not tell that he had already done NYSC some few years ago. During the interview, Umar Audu said, “for the biometric fingerprint, there was no issue at all. As soon as I put in my fingerprint, it just captured it and I moved to the next stage of registration.”

“There were fingerprints when I did my first NYSC and throughout the service year, we had monthly biometric clearance. So, what happened to that database? So, that was surprising.” In conclusion, Umar Audu was simply saying that the database of the NYSC should have shown that he already took part in NYSC before he enrolled for a second time during his investigative journalism.
