Drawing from his extensive media experience, Onanuga expressed confidence that the government’s initiatives would yield positive results within the next year. While acknowledging the global nature of the cost of living crisis, he urged Nigerians to contribute to food production by engaging in agriculture, even at a small scale, such as backyard farming. This, he suggested, would help decrease reliance on traders who might be exploiting the situation for profit.
Onanuga illustrated the price disparities he observed in different regions, highlighting the need for collective action to address these issues. He suggested that such significant price differences could indicate sabotage or profiteering by traders, reinforcing the need for increased local agricultural production.
According him: “For example, a lady showed us a basket of tomatoes being sold for N4,000, and in Lagos, it is N10,000, and in Abuja it is N8,000. I bought a basket of mangoes for N1,000 in Ogbomoso, but in Lagos only three mangoes were sold for N1,000.
