Sowunmi stressed that El-Rufai and Bello actively supported Tinubu during the 2023 presidential race, but they appear to have been excluded from positions of authority, which has created feelings of betrayal, according to a Daily Post report.

Sowunmi expressed concern over the treatment meted out to El-Rufai and Bello by Tinubu’s government, which he believes contradicts the longstanding understanding between the Yoruba and the northern regions of Nigeria.

Sowunmi questioned whether Tinubu has remained true to his principles and alliances. He highlighted El-Rufai’s unwavering support during the primaries and general elections, contrasting it with the treatment El-Rufai has received, including a humiliating security report during a Senate clearance process dominated by Tinubu allies.

Sowunmi also pointed out Yahaya Bello’s notable contributions to Tinubu’s campaign, citing his efforts in delivering strong electoral results in Kogi State and organizing youth campaigns. However, Bello’s current situation, which Sowunmi described as embarrassing, raises concerns about loyalty and reciprocity.

The cautionary note extends to Tinubu’s future political aspirations, with Sowunmi urging him to consider whether his work can be completed within one term or if he plans to seek reelection. Sowunmi emphasized the importance of power-sharing and ensuring that those who contribute to political success feel protected and valued.

Sowunmi invoked a deep sense of national duty, urging Tinubu to prioritize the interests of the nation over partisan politics.
