President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been given 48 hours by the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) to revert the recent increase in the price of premium motor spirit (PMS), also referred to as gasoline, at the pump. Tinubu was reached by SERAP’s deputy director, Kolawole Oluwadare of the organization.
SERAP claims that “the country’s constitutional guarantees and international human rights obligations are fundamentally violated by the increase in petrol prices.”
The letter emphasized the following points: “If there is sufficient admissible evidence, suspected perpetrators of alleged corruption and mismanagement in the NNPC should face prosecution as appropriate.
Additionally, any proceeds of corruption should be fully recovered.” “SERAP voiced concern that rising gas costs are aggravating poverty and inequality in the country.
