According to DAILY POST reporting, members of the G-5 group of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), also referred to as the Integrity Group, held a crucial meeting on Thursday night in Abuja. The group’s only sitting governor is Seyi Makinde of Oyo State.

The G-5 emerged during the build-up to the 2023 general elections, with its members championing a shift in leadership within the PDP.

Nyesom Wike, now the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), contested for the PDP presidential ticket in 2022 but was defeated by former vice president Atiku Abubakar.

Following his loss, Wike and the other G-5 members opposed Atiku’s candidacy, arguing that the party should have fielded a southerner for the 2023 presidential election.

The G-5’s dissatisfaction with the party leadership escalated into a leadership struggle, particularly against then-PDP National Chairman Iyorchia Ayu, who was accused of working for Atiku.

Their efforts eventually led to Ayu’s removal, with Umar Damagum appointed as the acting National Chairman of the party.

However, the PDP remains embroiled in internal strife as a fresh move by current PDP governors seeks to unseat Damagum, whom they accuse of aligning too closely with Wike.

This development has deepened the leadership crisis within the party, with at least four PDP governors declaring their support for Damagum, further dividing the party.

Although the details of the G-5’s Thursday meeting in Abuja remain undisclosed, it is widely believed to be connected to the ongoing push by some PDP governors to remove Damagum.

Samuel Ortom’s media aide, Terver Akase, confirmed the meeting to DAILY POST but withheld specifics regarding the discussions.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
