Temitope Ajayi, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Special Advisor on Media and Publicity, responded to remarks made by Peter Gregory Obi, the former governor of Anambra State and the Labour Party’s candidate for president in 2023, who stated that the federal government ought to have fixed all the broken roads before starting work on the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway project. In the post that Temitope Ajayi shared on his official X handle on Friday, he said when the Western region government under the leadership of Chief Obafemi Awolowo started Cocoa House, Liberty Stadium, University of Ife, the first television station in Africa, Lagos Airport Hotel, Premier Hotel in Ibadan and many other projects, there were no roads, schools, hospitals and basic amenities in most parts of the region. He said the view that bad roads should be repaired before starting new projects emanated from base instincts.

Temitope Ajayi wrote on his official X handle;

“The view that the Federal Government should have fixed all bad roads in Nigeria before embarking on Lagos-Calabar Coastal stems from base instincts. When the Western region government under Chief Obafemi Awolowo conceived and started Cocoa House, Liberty Stadium, University of Ife, the first television station in Africa, Lagos Airport Hotel, Premier Hotel in Ibadan, the industrial estates now in Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Edo and Delta states etc, there were no roads, schools, hospitals and basic amenities in most parts of the region”.
