According to Nwoko, the South-East zone has only 15 lawmakers in the senate, compared to 18 lawmakers from other zones, resulting in inadequate representation and resource allocation.

According to the report by The Cable, Nwoke argued that the creation of Anioma state would address this disparity, ensuring fair representation and resource allocation for the South-East.

He said that Anioma state would comprise nine local government areas, six of which are rich in oil and gas resources.

In his statement, he said, “I am presenting a bill for the creation of Anioma state to correct this historical oversight. Anioma is composed of nine local government areas, six of which are rich in oil and gas resources.

“The region also boasts of significant human capital, making it a viable and sustainable candidate for statehood. Creating Anioma state is not just about increasing the number of states; it is about ensuring fair representation and resource allocation for the South-East.”

He disclosed that the proposal has garnered widespread support from various stakeholders, including traditional rulers and the political class in Anioma. He said that the late Asagba of Asaba, Obi (Prof) Chike Edozien, had consistently supported the creation of Anioma state, and had held numerous meetings and discussions with former President Olusegun Obasanjo on the issue.

He said, “The creation of Anioma State is a crucial step towards achieving justice and equity for the South-East.”READ FULL STORY HERE>>>CLICK HERE TO CONTINUE READING>>>
