The former executive secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme, Usman Yusuf, expressed his worries over the budget of Nigeria and the consequences of eliminating the fuel subsidy. Yusuf asserted in a recent Daily Trust TV video that the government intends to spend more than ninety-six million naira on a single borehole. According to him, the Federal Allocation Account Committee (FAAC), which allots federal revenue to the states, is the source of this funding. He claimed that the reason the governors have not protested the elimination of the fuel subsidy is because the amount of money they receive from the FAAC has increased.

In Yusuf’s words: “We have seen the allocation where they are going to spend over 96 million naira for a borehole, this is not a joke. The governors are awash with money, removal of this fuel subsidy means they get more money allocated to them during FAAC.
