Prominent human rights activist Inibehe Effiong expressed his concerns about the political climate in Rivers State during a recent interview with Channels Television. CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>

Effiong examined a recent comment made by former governor Wike at a gathering in the Ogu/Bolo Local Government Area in particular. Effiong took issue with Wike’s statement that backing Fubara was a mistake that would be fixed eventually. He emphasized that saying so highlights the political system’s ingrained defects and deterioration in the state and indicates the necessity for significant reform.

Inibehe Effiong questioned the authority of one individual to determine a successor and emphasised the importance of electoral processes in such decisions. He emphasised the need for political leaders to be cautious of what they say to the public.

According to him, “I think that statement by Mr. Wike goes to show how decayed, fundamentally flawed our politics is. Let us not deceive ourselves. We are speaking about a man who, as governor for eight years, was not known to condone any form of opposition. So when one person comes out and says, I regret the role I played or I regret making you my successor, shouldn’t it have been the electorate of Rivers State that should have determined who should succeed him?'” CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
