In a video that TVC posted to YouTube, Akpabio stated that a preacher said during the 12-year-old boy’s funeral that death is lovely for those who die in the Lord. According to him, an old guy questioned the pastor’s claims, asking why the over-50-year-old had never personally tasted the sweetness of death. After this exchange, Akpabio claims that the old man made the decision to depart the venue with a few other people.

Akpabio stated that the notion of death being sweet for those who die in the Lord is often expressed to align with biblical teachings, however for those who are mortal, like himself and others, the death of someone like Herbert Wigwe, was a painful experience

He said if the death was so sweet why are you up to 50 and you are not dead? So some people joined the man and walked away. If anybody says death is sweet, those who die in the Lord, it is to fulfill the Bible. But for those of us who are mortal, this death (of Wigwe, wife, and son) is very painful.
