Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday, Akinyemi described Trump’s victory as a global disappointment, asserting that the U.S. “disgraced itself and disappointed the rest of the world in the electoral decision it took last night.”
Akinyemi’s comments underscore his disapproval of the outcome, especially considering the heated rivalry between Trump and his Democratic opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris.
According to Akinyemi, Harris attempted to reach out to Trump following his victory, but he reportedly ignored her calls. “Do you know that Kamala Harris has been trying to get in touch with him to congratulate him and she hasn’t succeeded, he hasn’t picked up her call,” he remarked, questioning Trump’s commitment to fostering unity.
Akinyemi continued, “It is a routine procedure that the loser in a presidential election would call the winner to congratulate him and offer a hand of friendship and cooperation, and Trump has refused to pick that call.”
Akinyemi further criticized Trump’s victory as a symbolic battle between light and darkness, suggesting that Americans might come to regret this decision.
The diplomat contended that Trump’s actions and rhetoric have deepened divisions within the U.S., casting doubt on his ability to bridge the political and social gaps evident in the country today. “Does that sound like somebody who intends to unite America?” he questioned.
In a historic and unprecedented comeback, 78-year-old Trump defeated Harris to claim the presidency once again. Trump’s win marks him as the first U.S. president in over a century to secure a non-consecutive second term.
Additionally, he becomes the only individual to hold the office while a convicted felon, with sentencing for fraud scheduled in New York later this month. His victory sets him on course to become the oldest sitting president, a record that surpasses that of President Joe Biden, who will step down at 82 in January.
The election outcome has already stirred intense reactions worldwide, with many leaders and political observers speculating on the implications of Trump’s return to power, both within the U.S. and on the global stage.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
