Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday, Akinyemi described Trump’s victory as a global disappointment, asserting that the U.S. “disgraced itself and disappointed the rest of the world in the electoral decision it took last night.”
Akinyemi’s comments underscore his disapproval of the outcome, especially considering the heated rivalry between Trump and his Democratic opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris.
According to Akinyemi, Harris attempted to reach out to Trump following his victory, but he reportedly ignored her calls. “Do you know that Kamala Harris has been trying to get in touch with him to congratulate him and she hasn’t succeeded, he hasn’t picked up her call,” he remarked, questioning Trump’s commitment to fostering unity.
Akinyemi continued, “It is a routine procedure that the loser in a presidential election would call the winner to congratulate him and offer a hand of friendship and cooperation, and Trump has refused to pick that call.”
Akinyemi further criticized Trump’s victory as a symbolic battle between light and darkness, suggesting that Americans might come to regret this decision.
