In response to Professor Isa Ali Pantami, the former minister of communication, saying that security authorities are not using the NIN to follow the bandits, security analyst Kabir Adamu has responded. According to his assertion, security agents possess trackers that enable them to locate abductors. He disputed claims that tracking is impractical and highlighted the ability of security agencies to track. He said in an interview with TVC, ”I know for a fact that we have trackers, we know the locations where these abductors are. I do not subscribe to the argument that we can’t track the abductor. I say this with all sense of responsibility because I run a consultancy and we support the release of abducted victims. I know for a fact that we have trackers, we know the locations where these abductors are. The statement by Pantami is perhaps out of ignorance. I know for a fact that security agencies have the capacity to track.
In almost all the cases that I have been involved in, the security agencies know where these abductions are. The challenge for them usually is the fact that they have already abducted this persons. And so if they attempt to rescue them, in an operation, then there is a likelihood that there will be collateral damage, the persons may be killed. The abduction style that we see in Nigeria is extremely organized. The groups sometimes divide themselves into four different groups. The ones that will be holding the victims will be different.
