Stephen described how he watched his father invest his life money and even disburse election-related expenses in an interview with Seun Okinbaloye on Mic On Podcast. He claimed that their family experienced financial difficulties after MKO Abiola was not sworn in as president. He claimed they were forced to relocate to a village without running water or electricity because they were unable to pay their rent.

Stephen said the experience deeply affected his father who struggled to recover from the disappointment

In Stephen’s words: “I saw my father bring briefcase full of money and distribute every single Kobo. MKO Abiola didn’t get the position after election and we could not renew house rent, this was a room and parlour bedroom.
