1966 Military Coup: Igbos had no reason to topple that govt but it was blamed on us - According to Iwuanyanwu

Dr. Emmanuel Chukwuemeka Iwuanyanwu, the president general of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, has offered his opinions on the circumstances surrounding the military intervention in Nigeria in 1966. He described this action as the most unfortunate thing that had ever happened to Nigeria, as the military overthrew a democratically elected government in a coup. CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>

In an interview with Arise TV, Iwuanyanwu pointed out that although the Igbo community was not the rightful owner of the coup, it is frequently attributed to them. It is unfair, he suggested, to hold the Igbo people responsible for the military intervention.

He added that Nigeria had a federal constitution from 1960 to 1966 that was appropriate for a nation with such a diverse population.

As stated by Iwuanyanwu “It was blamed on us, even though Igbos had no motive to overthrow that government. Following independence, that specific government was able to adopt a true federal constitution that applied to people from diverse backgrounds, such as those in Nigeria. In 1960–1966, we had a comprehensive federal constitution, and it served our needs. They eventually switched to a unitary constitution.” CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
