It was gathered that the machete-wielding robber was one of the five-man gang of robbers who attempted to snatch the motorcycle from the police officers without knowing that they were security operatives because they were in mufti.

According to a statement by the Public Relations Officer of the state police command, Benjamin Hundeyin and posted on the X handle of the RRS on Sunday, while four other members of the gang escaped, Akinjobi was arrested. A machete he wanted to use to attack the officers was recovered from him.

The statement added that he had given more useful information to the police operatives while a manhunt had been launched for the arrest of the fleeing members of the gang.

Part of the statement reads: “Rapid Response Squad (RRS) operatives in plain clothes, patrolling on a motorcycle, have arrested a robbery suspect, Akinjobi Wahab, aged 19 years while trying to snatch their motorcycle.”
