19-year-old teenager describes in details of how he used stick to kill his 14-year-old friend

On Saturday, March 30, 2024, information was acquired on how a 19-year-old youngster who was detained by members of the Niger State Police Command killed his 14-year-old friend as the friend was sleeping in his bed. After killing his 14-year-old companion, Sikiru Tajudeen, who resided in the same neighborhood as him, the adolescent, whose name was given as Yakubu Tanko, was taken into custody by police officers affiliated with the Bosso Division. According to a statement by the state police command through its Public Relations Officer, Wasiu Abiodun and posted on his Facebook wall on Saturday, a report of a missing person was made at the police station which indicated that the boy was not seen at home, but his school uniform, a stick and a stone were found with blood stains in the room.

Information was later received by the police from the community that an odour was perceived from a septic tank within the community, and after a proper check by the police, a tied sack was found in the tank and the content was discovered to be the body of Sikiru Tajudeen.

Further findings from the community pointed to Yakubu Tanko as the person behind the act and he was immediately arrested.

During his interrogation, he was said to have confessed killing the boy. He told policemen that he met Sikiru in the room sleeping and he picked a stick from the kitchen and used it to hit him on the head. He said blood gushed out and he left the scene immediately, but returned after two hours.

He added that he put the body in a sack and kept it in the kitchen till night time. He later returned with a wheelbarrow, removed the corpse alone and dumped it in the septic tank, in an attempt to cover the crime.

According to the statement, he had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) where more investigations are to be carried out.
