Bukola Atitebi, the wife of Atitebi Tolulope Elijah, one of the victims abducted in an 18-seater bus along Akunu-Akoko in Ondo State, was quoted in a Premium Times report as saying that her father-in-law told the kidnappers he only had N1.5 million in his account and he begged them to accept it. Atitebi described how her husband traveled from Abuja to Lagos and then took a bus back to their house. Sadly, armed kidnappers on the Ikare-Akoko route in Akure cut short their journey.

Bukola Atitebi said, “He left Abuja on behalf of his company to rectify some technical issues the Lagos office was facing. After finishing the work, for his return journey, he joined the first bus from Jibowu, Yaba, at the GUO motor park. They were accosted along the Ikare-Akoko road in Akure by the kidnappers. Fortunately, yesterday evening, one of the kidnappers called my father-in-law, who lives in Mowe, and requested a N50 million ransom before they could release my husband.
