Speaking recently to a gathering in Edo State was Datti Baba-Ahmed, the running mate of Peter Obi, a candidate for president in the previous election under the banner of the Labour Party. During a live broadcast on Symfoni TV, Datti asserted that the INEC Result Viewing Portal (IReV) was abruptly shut down when Peter Obi began to accumulate more votes in the 2023 presidential election. Baba-Ahmed also urged the people of Edo not to feel intimidated by powerful figures, saying that true power lies with the citizens. He emphasized that the people’s voice is what truly matters in deciding leadership.
In Datti’s words: “When they began to feel the heat, they switched off IReV. When votes began to pour in for Peter Obi what did they do? When they saw that Peter Obi was winning what did they do? They changed the constitution. When Peter Obi won the presidency they changed the meaning of English language. Never be intimidated by what you hear in the news. When you see them in the news, when they come down from their big aircraft the first thing you should remember is the value of your naira.
