Punch reports that suspected herdsmen attacked Amegu village, which is in the Nkalaha community of the Ishielu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, on Sunday, killing numerous civilians and setting buildings on fire.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>

The assault is believed to be a retaliatory action after reports of cattle being killed in the region. Prof. Ndubuisi Idenyi, a native of the area, confirmed the attack to PUNCH Metro, stating that the assailants struck in the early hours of Sunday, causing widespread violence and destruction of properties worth billions of naira. “I don’t have the number of casualties right now. We are still tracking and bringing out the dead bodies, especially those killed in the farms,” he said.

A source also revealed that a pastor from a Pentecostal church in the area was among those killed during the attack. The source, who wished to remain anonymous for safety reasons, denied that the community members were responsible for killing the cows. “We did not kill their cows. The cows were killed by members of the Eastern Security Network in the forest,” the source stated.

The hairperson of Ishielu Local Government Area, Mrs. Ifeoma Peace Agwu, confirmed the attack to PUNCH Metro, noting that the victims’ bodies were being taken to the mortuary. She refrained from providing further details at the time, promising more information later.

Meanwhile, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Joshua Ukandu, stated that he was not aware of the incident when approached for comment on Sunday.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
