According to a VANGUARD report, members of the Lagos State House of Assembly have publicly apologized to President Bola Tinubu for their role in the impeachment of former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa. The GAC, the highest decision-making body within the Lagos APC, convened after reports surfaced that President Tinubu was dissatisfied with the impeachment process. Sources revealed that during the meeting, Tinubu instructed that Obasa be reinstated, stating that the impeachment process should be reversed.

At the meeting, which was attended by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Deputy Governor Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, there was a heated exchange over the removal of Obasa. Several GAC members expressed concerns over the lack of consultation prior to the Speaker’s ousting.

In response to the President’s directive, Lagos lawmakers were instructed to write two apology letters to Tinubu. The first letter expressed regret for removing Obasa without prior consultation with key party leaders and conveyed their commitment to convert the impeachment into a resignation. The second letter, signed by members from Lagos West, acknowledged Hon. Mojisola Meranda as the new Speaker, despite disregarding the party’s zoning formula. Seventeen of the 20 lawmakers from Lagos West endorsed this letter.

Obasa’s impeachment on January 13, 2025, followed allegations of misconduct, abuse of office, and financial mismanagement. However, prominent GAC members, including Senator Anthony Adefuye and Chief Muraina Taiwo, publicly criticized Obasa’s removal, labeling it illegal and an affront to party leadership. Despite their opposition, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro urged party leaders to avoid public statements that could exacerbate the crisis.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
