WAR NEWS: UN Agency Confirms Hamas Commander Killed in IDF Strike Was a Staff Member; Involved in Oct 7 Attack

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) and Shin Bet, Israel’s internal security service, stated that Attawi had been employed by UNRWA since July 2022.

The situation has raised significant concerns regarding the involvement of UNRWA employees in militant activities. According to UNRWA, Attawi’s name appeared on a list sent to the agency by Israel in July, which included 100 staff members allegedly affiliated with armed groups, including Hamas. Juliette Touma, UNRWA’s director of communications, noted that the agency took these allegations seriously.

“The UNRWA commissioner general responded to that letter immediately stating that any allegation is taken seriously. He urged (the government of Israel) to cooperate with the agency by providing more information so he could take action. To date, UNRWA has not received any response to that letter,” she stated.

In light of these developments, IDF Spokesman Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari emphasized the need for transparency and accountability.
