“Police. Do not attack protesters. Your children are involved. Your lives are involved. Your children’s future lies here,” Tinubu had written before he became President.

During Jonathan’s administration, there were numerous protests, with Tinubu and other key All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders supporting these demonstrations.

The resurfacing of Tinubu’s former stance on protests comes as Nigerian youths plan nationwide protests from August 1-10, 2024.

The protests aim to draw attention to the worsening economic hardship in the country.

The latest Consumer Price Index and Inflation report, released by the National Bureau of Statistics on Monday, showed that Nigeria’s headline inflation increased for the 18th consecutive month in June 2024, reaching 34.19 percent from 33.95 percent in May.

There are allegations that the Nigeria Police Force plans to halt the upcoming protests.

An internal memo seen by DAILY POST revealed that the police are aware of groups mobilizing for mass protests nationwide.

The memo, dated July 8, instructed zonal Assistant Inspectors-General of Police to mobilize well-kitted and equipped personnel in preparation for the protests.

Social media users have reacted to Tinubu’s old tweet.

@Emir Sirdam, who shared the President’s post from November 2013, reminded the police of Tinubu’s words.

“Your words will be your greatest enemy. Dear Nigerian Police @PoliceNG take note,” he wrote.

Another user, @Comrade Isah Muhhamed, expressed his opinion.

“@PoliceNG come and see this. So when we come out, you should abide by this principle,” he added.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
