The Sun reports that Ohaneze Ndigbo has expressed disapproval of President Bola Tinubu’s speech for leaving out the late Prof. Humphrey Nwosu from the list of notable figures in Nigeria’s democratic history, on June 12, which is observed as Democracy Day in the country. Ohaneze Ndigbo, through Chief Damian Okeke Ogene, its National Vice President, described Tinubu’s speech as ill-prepared.

While acknowledging the roles played by various Nigerians in the struggle for democracy, Tinubu failed to recognize Prof. Nwosu, who chaired the National Electoral Commission (NEC) during what is widely regarded as Nigeria’s most credible election.

Ohaneze Ndigbo emphasized that the essence of Democracy Day lies in the genuine independence of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Despite the significance of June 12, the group argued that INEC continues to operate with bias, a situation they believe has benefited Tinubu.

Chief Damian Okeke Ogene expressed disappointment, stating, “It is very unfortunate that the president made a broadcast and forgot a person like Prof. Humphrey Nwosu who almost put his life on the ground in the course of discharging his duties as the Chairman of National Electoral Commission, NEC.”

“I don’t think that it was an oversight because it is poorly written and you cannot mention those people that fought for democracy and forget Humphrey Nwosu who made public, the outcome of that election.”

Ohaneze Ndigbo insisted that recognizing the contributions of all significant figures, including Nwosu, is crucial to genuinely honoring the essence of Democracy Day. They argued that disregarding Nwosu undermines the commemoration and dismisses the risks he took in his pivotal role.READ FULL STORY HERE>>>CLICK HERE TO CONTINUE READING>>>
