According to the state Police Public Relations Officer, Moses Yamu, the suspect lured the young girl into his room under the pretense of sending her on an errand. Once inside, he reportedly attacked her.
A neighbour who heard the girl shouting in the room intervened by calling the police, leading to the suspect’s arrest and the victim’s rescue. Yamu confirmed that Obakpian confessed to the crime during interrogation and will soon face court proceedings.
Yamu emphasized that the police are determined to protect vulnerable individuals, especially women and girls, and to bring perpetrators of such crimes to justice.
Yamu urged the public to remain vigilant and report incidents of abuse or violence to law enforcement authorities. He noted that this case serves as a warning to those who commit heinous crimes, reaffirming the command’s resolve to uphold justice and safeguard the community.
