'The Fulanis Were Those Who Owned Nigeria Before Lord Lugard Brought Amalgamation' - According to SAN Agbakoba

Former President of the Nigerian Bar Association SAN Olisa Agbakoba has pushed for an invitation to the Fulanis, the original landowners who came before Lugard’s merger, in order to resolve Nigeria’s constitutional problems. He suggested talking to them to find out what their preferences were under the constitution. He underlined how crucial it is to resolve core issues pertaining to Nigeria’s constitution and unity. Referencing late Bola Ige’s inquiries about the desire for unity, he stressed that it’s not compulsory but a matter of choice and questioned how this unity could be achieved. He pointed out that these essential questions haven’t been adequately addressed in the past 23 years, particularly regarding the constitution.

He said in an interview with Arise TV, ‘You recall that Bola Ige asked two questions, do we want to be one? Is not by force. If we want to be one. How? We haven’t asked those questions. And this is why I told President Akpabio of the Senate that it has taken 23 years to solve the problem of the constitution. And I urged him in conjunction with President Tinubu to resolve the Nigeria constitutional questions now.
