Tension as Okpebholo, Akpabio, and Other Parties Watch as Oba of Benin Counters Oshiomhole

The Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II, has refuted former governor Adams Oshiomhole’s allegation that the monarch counseled against supporting Godwin Obaseki in the 2016 governor’s race, according to a DailyTrust article. However, during a visit by All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders to the palace on Sunday, September 22, following the party’s recent electoral victory, the monarch clarified that he never gave such advice.

In his apology, Oshiomhole, kneeling before the Oba, said, “Your Royal Majesty, I apologize for my poor judgment in supporting a man… when I presented Obaseki to you, against your advice.”

However, Oba Ewuare II quickly refuted this, stating, “When you brought Obaseki to me, I did not say anything.”

He emphasized that he never opposed Obaseki’s candidacy and even cited a witness present during the introduction.

The Oba also hinted at his intent to avoid any controversy related to Senator Monday Okpebholo, a key APC figure and close ally of Oshiomhole, adding, “I told them.

This exchange, witnessed by notable APC members, including Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Senator Okpebholo, has introduced a new layer of intrigue to the political dynamics in Edo State, particularly surrounding Oshiomhole’s past endorsement of Obaseki, who remains a divisive figure in the state’s political landscape.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
