With a statement released on Saturday, the former leader of the Senate, aiming for the action, said that Nigerians were already facing a lot of challenges, including historically high inflation, low purchasing power, insecurity, and other hardships, and that the federal government ought to reassess its position in that regard.

Ndume thinks that the Federal Government should deliver steady electricity to Nigerians, reduce inflation, stabilise the value of the naira, bring down food prices, and provide other essentials ahead of raising the fee.

Ndume said: “The news of the increment came to me and many of my colleagues as a shock. It also came at a time when the National Assembly was on a break. I think the timing of this hike is very wrong. Nigerians are grappling with many challenges.

“It is not fair to place this additional duty on them. Nigerians are still recovering from last year’s elimination of fuel subsidies. Many Nigerians are still attempting to deal with the fallout from the removal. It is incorrect to come up with this presently.

“I think there’s a timing issue. Consultations were necessary, especially with the people’s representative body, the National Assembly. Nobody asked our opinion. We saw the news, as did all Nigerians.

“Inflation is still very high. The cost of food, prescription drugs, transportation, school fees, and other necessities is still high. It doesn’t seem reasonable to impose this extra burden at this time.” CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
