The second-leg match between Nigeria and Libya in Group D of the 2025 African Cup of Nations qualifying has been cancelled. The game’s controversy led to its delistment by the Confederation of African Football, or CAF. The second leg of the qualifier between Nigeria’s Super Eagles and Libya was scheduled for Tuesday (today).
In the first leg, which was played on Friday at Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, the Super Eagles had already defeated Libya 1-0.
Recall that the Libya Football Federation had also accused Nigeria of sabotage and threatened legal action against the country. Through its official Twitter account, CAF updated games that would be played across the continent on Tuesday, but left out the Super Eagles vs. Libya match.
The Nigerian Football Federation, the Super Eagles, and officials recounted their 14-hour ordeal at the Libya airport, where they reportedly faced humiliation that prompted them to decide to return home.
