Bello refuted this idea in an interview with Seun Okinbaloye on Mic On Podcast by emphasizing the tight bond his father had with Peter Jones, a Cross River resident and devoted Christian. Since they were four years old, Bello claims that Peter Jones has been the closest person to his father.

Peter Jones was reported to be a long-serving Personal Assistant to Nasir El-Rufai, having worked with him since 1988.

Bello also emphasized that religion is viewed as a personal matter in his family, challenging the perception that his father holds anti-Christian sentiments.
